After a slow start, my Chilli Peppers are starting to come on well! 42 out of 50 are now growing and I am hoping the last few will appear very soon.
I am growing 4 different varieties this year. last year I grew enough to freeze lots, and eating at the rate of 4-6 a week, I used the last few last week. So! Shop bought peppers now until these get a move on!
Outside, we have planted potatoes again after our success last year. Only a small plot, but they are shooting up and looking really healthy (HOW???? This is US looking after them! What is going on?
Right next to our potatoes, we have shallots sprouting! These are so much tastier than onions, even if they are a little fiddly to prepare. Used in curries they give a really rich taste and have better thickening properties to bind the whole thing together. Mmmmmmm.
Another newbie for us - Blackcurrants. Probably my favourite fruit after Pineapple and Grapefruit. If we ever serve them to you though, don't expect them to be ruined with sweetening! Pull a face or whatever, but enjoy the taste as nature provides! Deeeeeeelishus!
Next to the blackcurrants - Rhubarb! last years attempt was a total failure. This year we have a new spot, a better established plant to start with and so far! So good! Wait and see on this one!
In the greenhouse (sharing space with half of my Chilli Peppers) we have Cucumbers, Courgettes and cherry tomatoes.
We knew these grew well, but WOW are they growing quickly!
They really are turning into something more like triffids than food! Now sure who is controlling who anymore!
Finally (almost), our apple tree!
As you can see, turning into quite a monster now (just think, it was only about 3 feet high when we planted it! We get a good crop every year and are still using last years supply!
This year though it has gone crazy! To say it has a lot of apples is a major understatement, a bit like saying Ghengis Khan had a gang!
As we refuse to use any poisons in the garden we have to rely on nature to find its balance and ensure enough stay healthy to use - but she hasn't let us down yet! Fingers crossed!
Ok, I said the apple tree was ALMOST the final piece. Surely no-one thought there would be nothing about wildlife???
Found this lovely little cranefly trapped under the netting over our potatoes. So, a quick photo and then he got released safely :-)
Thats all for now folks! Comments welcome (please).
Bro, all looking really good! Now that you can garden, how are you with a hedgetrimmer, 'cos my arms are falling off.
