Things that make me go 'GGrrrrrrrrrrrr'!
Speed Bumps!
Why are so many of our roads being turned into obstacle courses for those of us ecologically minded enough to drive small cars? It is so clever of the planning department to look like they are making the road safer by slowing down cars with these things. I believe they are made from old world war 2 tank traps submerged into the road with he sharpest corners protruding.

Strange how they are designed to have little effect on large cars such as those driven by the wealthy town hall beurocrats.  Coincidence? I think not. These huge behemoths fly over the bumps with no effect while those of us in small cars get compacted spines and crushed suspension even if we drive over them at 5mph (invariably with a 26 seater people carrier with 6ft diameter wheel  looming in the rear view mirror only 1cm from the bumper).

Just watch a row of different sized cars passing along these roads - large cars speeding along in a perfectly straight line, medium sized cars weaving across thge road trying to find the optimal route between the bumps and the tiny cars coming almost to a stop and getting into a low enough gear to make the ascent.
For Gods sake - if people cannot drive safely, get them off the road - don t turn the roads into more of a nightmare than they already are for the rest of us!

  1. Most people here drive large cars, and we don't have many speed bumps (except in shopping mall areas). We, as a country, are not very concerned about the environment and how much better it would be to drive smaller cars. I must count myself in with many others. I drive a compact SUV--a Toyota Highlander. Just bought the youngest a Toyota Corolla. Much more fuel efficient. I can get about 25 mpg on the highway, but only 18-20 in town. I like the size of the vehicle--not too big and not too small. I load Molly up to take our walks. I have moved my children a few times and been grateful for the space, but I know it's not the best option. It is almost paid for, hence the new car for Wes. He had been driving a 1981 Z 28 Camaro with t-tops and original 8-track player. No air, no music, leaky t-tops. His dad has worked on it quite a bit, but it's really a show car. We need to sell it to offset the cost of the new car and put into his college fund, but we'll work on that soon.

Keep on being your eco-friendly self, Ian! It does make a difference!

  2. Well said Ian, I drive a Renault Clio 1400cc and have to go over 8 speed bumps to get to work and back and see these horrid 4x4's cruising over them not making any impact and feel that I'm damaging my car even going over at a minimal speed. Whose getting punished here!!
